The Quick And The Dead

He holds esteemed belts in Aikido & Karate, and Aikido worked with one harrowing incident.  He and his wife along with their Bull Massif dog were invited to his daughter and son-in-law’s cottage for a week-end visit.

Early Sunday morning he heard a dog barking.  Looked out the front door and there was a women jogger with a little dog snapping at her heals with the dog’s owner laughing, as he stood on his front lawn in pajama bottoms only.

The father went outside to observe and then the little Whippet attacked him, barking at his heals.  He took off his belt and gave it a simple swipe, the dog whelped in surprise and ran home.

“You motherfucker” the pajama man yelled while charging. The father used the attackers running force against him, ducked and  used his momentum to flip him way into the air. He looked like a deer in the headlights, landing on his back.

The father then got him in a wrestling scissor hold, taking the attacker's own hands and punching him with his own fists in his own face. The fight was over when the son-in-law came out "come on you guys".  The father stood his ground!

His daughter and son-in-law disappeared going for a boat ride not wanting to be involved when he called the Sheriff. The Sheriff arrived and heard the father's story, talked to the assaulter and found him guilty, stating that he violated Michigan Leash Law that it is unlawful for a dog owner to allow their dog to stray unleashed.

And he committed Assault and Battery which the Sheriff would testify in court. The daughter later asked her father that he not press charges, obviously taking the side of the assaulter beckoned by her domineering husband.

This was not the first incident with the next door Whippet.  A previous visit to the cabin, the father and his wife with their dog when getting off the pontoon boat, the Whippet ran from out of no where and attacked.  The father's dog fell off the dock into the water while trying to restrain and required his pulling the poor thing up by her neck leash.  They looked over in the distance at the neighbor lady standing by her side door laughing.

Needless to say, the family relationship ended with never an apology.  They think that there are two sides to the story.  To quote Thomas  Paine: “To argue with a man who has renounced the use and authority of reason, and whose philosophy consists in holding humanity in contempt, is like administering medicine to the dead, or endeavoring to convert an atheist by scripture.”
